Background

GT-R was first previewed live by Ecco2k at the Yung Lean concert at The Wiltern on April 7, 2016 in Los Angeles, California. The performance of the song was teased by Ecco2k via his robber0540 Twitter account earlier that day.

The following month, a still from the GT-R music video was teased by Ecco2k via Tumblr.

On November 27, 2016, the song was previewed live another time at The Yard in London, during the Eversince Tour. This was the final mention of the song until it's official release.

Release and promotion

GT-R released on February 3, 2017, accompanied by a music video on YouTube. The song adds to a substantial list of Ecco2k releases that have released on February 3. It is a release convention that began with his release "guardianAngels" and continued rather consistently through the years.

Cover art

The cover art is designed by Ecco2k. The image featured is a picture from a photoshoot originally intended for the 2016 Fiend Tour, which was rescheduled and changed into the Eversince Tour.

Lyrics

[Chorus]

In the street and I'm drifting like a GT-R

I don't speak at all, guess we need to talk

Barb wire and alarms all around the yard

The city's never dark but I'm seeing stars

Walking out the mall, scarlet Louboutins

Handbag Louis Vuitton and it's free of charge

Platinum Visa card, drinking rubicon

Christian Dior charms with some rubies on

[Verse]

They ask me 'bout my ones and where I got them from

I'm like, "Oh my god," I'm gonna lose my calm

Everything you know and love can soon be gone

If I don't get involved, then you can't do me wrong

Bleeding from my palms, dripping down my arms

I didn't mean you harm, I had a change of heart

Thought your life was hard, that was the easy part

If I say I love you, will you play along?

Bleeding from my palms like The Passion

Tracksuit bottoms and they sagging

Drinking crushed ice mixed with Vanish

And it made me disappear like magic

In the wonderland, feel like Alice (Feel like Alison)

I'm thinking let's go do some damage (Let's go damage them)

I got plastic bags full of acid (Tastes like medicine)

Whatever happens, happens

[Chorus]

In the street and I'm drifting like a GT-R

I don't speak at all, guess we need to talk

Barb wire and alarms all around the yard

The city's never dark but I'm seeing stars

Walking out the mall, scarlet Louboutins

Handbag Louis Vuitton and it's free of charge

Platinum Visa card, drinking rubicon

Christian Dior charms with some rubies on

Impact

Due to the large scarcity of Ecco2k releases at the time of its preview, as well as Ecco2k's incredibly elusive online presence at the time, the song instantly became a fan favorite. Due to the YouTube video description of The Wiltern performance, uploaded by LA Concert Goer, the song was believed to have been slated to release on Ecco2k's debut project, though this proved to be a rumour, which was very common at the time before the release of E .
